Deltarune Chapter 5 — Beginner Guide
Everything new players need to know before diving into Deltarune Chapter 5 — The Field of Pink and Gold.
What is Deltarune?
Deltarune is an RPG adventure game by Toby Fox, the creator of Undertale. It features a unique blend of turn-based combat and real-time bullet-hell mechanics. Chapter 5 continues the story of Kris, Susie, and Ralsei as they explore a new Dark World — The Field of Pink and Gold.
The game alternates between the Light World (Hometown) and Dark Worlds, each with its own mechanics, characters, and story. Understanding both worlds is key to progressing through the game.
Basic Controls & Combat System
Combat in Deltarune combines turn-based RPG elements with real-time bullet-hell dodging. During your turn, you can FIGHT, ACT, ITEM, or SPARE. The enemy's turn involves dodging projectiles in a bullet board.
Each party member has unique abilities: Kris is flexible, Susie deals heavy physical damage, and Ralsei provides healing and magic support.
TP (Tech Points) are earned by dodging bullets and can be used for special techniques. Managing TP wisely is crucial for harder fights.
Understanding Dark Worlds
Dark Worlds are alternate realities where ordinary objects transform into characters and environments. Each chapter features a unique Dark World based on a specific location or concept.
Chapter 5's Dark World is themed around flowers and gardens — The Field of Pink and Gold. Expect flower-themed enemies, environments, and mechanics.
When entering a Dark World, your party transforms: Kris gets a sword, Susie gets an axe, Ralsei appears in his true form with magical abilities.
Chapter 5 New Mechanics
Kris-Only Solo Battle: Chapter 5 introduces a solo encounter where Kris fights alone against an unknown enemy with Omega Flowey-style bullet patterns.
Sliding Mechanic: The party can slide down large flower stems — a new traversal mechanic in the Dark World.
Shadow Crystal Collection: Collecting five Shadow Crystals (from secret bosses across chapters) will allow Seam to craft a special item.
Flower-Themed Attacks: New enemy bullet patterns include triangular petal attacks and painting-covered bullet boards.
Pacifist vs. Violent Routes
Deltarune offers different approaches to encounters. You can FIGHT enemies (violent) or ACT + SPARE them (pacifist). The Weird Route is a special alternate path with unique story events.
Pacifist runs typically offer more story content and unique encounters. Consider trying a pacifist approach first for the richest story experience.
The Weird Route continues from Chapter 4 in Chapter 5, offering an alternate storyline with different events and outcomes.
